The article 20 percent of America, is about people who are disabled’s rights and inclusion in society and how the goverment had segregated them. It was children in school and adults who were disabled being segregated. “People with disabilities are the largest minority group in the United States, but for the most part, we remain invisible.” People who are disabled are required to cover in order to obtain positions of power in government and in companies. They are not allowed many things and are trying to increase their rights from the former suppression in the 1900s. The second article is about a teacher getting suspended for showing her students pictures of her and her fiancé. Parents complained of her pushing homosexuality on the students. ““If a district is thinking about bullying or shaming a gay teacher out of their job, I hope they remember my name,” Ms. Bailey said.” She is was frustrated at the district she taught for and was punished by them by being fired because she did not cover who she is. She decided to be proud of who she was and be open although the world is still learning to include members of the LGBTQ+ community. The community demands covering in this situation because they have believed for hundreds of years that it is not ok to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community. The community also believes that people who are disabled should not be able to participate in strong political roles and that they are not able to do things non-disabled people can do.

  1. I think you used great examples for what covering is and how it has affected people. I think that the two groups you used, the LGBTQ community, and disabled people, are two groups of people who cover much more than most and are affected the most if they do not cover. If the teacher had covered instead of showing the class the photo then she may still have her job, and this shows just how severe not covering for some people can be.
