I learned this after almost hitting an opossum last night driving from the grocery store. I thought someone else had hit it but it walked off the road. Later, I was calling my mom who actually told me this fact and I was shocked. I thought they did it out of sheer instinct to avoid predators but they are actually scared so bad they pass out.
